Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8x8 baking pan with butter.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until just combined. Beat in the vanilla.

Alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Beat just until combined.

Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of the crumb mixture. Spread the remaining batter over the crumb mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining crumb mixture.
